Procedural modeled and simulated umbrellas.
I created this scene to test a rendering and compositing workflow in Aces. Aces is this crazy huge colorspace.
I will definitly using it for most of my projects from now on.
Simulation done with Houdini. Rendered with Arnold. Comp in Nuke.
I built an HDA in Houdini to create a bunch of different Umbrellas. The outputs of the HDA are for the preview mesh, a mesh for the cloth sim, a curve for the underlaying wire construction and a few more.
The HDA also puts out a center-point with a pscale with the size of the umbrella. I then simulated the scene in several iterations. First: a simple popsim for the general movement and collisionbehavior. Then a Vellum-Sim over the wires. And lastly a Vellum-Clothsim glued to wires.
